Yes please! I have been staring at the first page all day :/ how much detail did you go into on the first question? Do you just refer to the issues and events in the slides or go into more detail about like invasion day and other events?

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
Hey Cherry. This is what I put for the first question.
Aboriginal people have their own history from pre-settlement time. The land to Indigenous people is not just a geographical area; it incorporates associated values, places, resources, stories and cultural obligations that are central to historical and spiritual wellbeing. Their ties to the land are based in the Dreaming, with the belief that the people are part of the land and have a strong caretaking responsibility. It is necessary for non-Indigenous people who wish to provide services to Indigenous people and communities to at least understand the basics of these perceptions and to try to understand the changes that were forced upon Indigenous people
Some of the major historical and contemporary events that are needed to be considered are:
• Loss of land and Culture
• Discrimination and anti-discrimination legislation
• stolen generations
• land rights
• language
• family and kinship structures

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
Hey guys,
Having trouble wording the answer for this question:
Activity 10
• What strategies might be employed to ensure that workplace and professional relationships are based on mutual respect, tolerance of diversity and a shared understanding of cultural safety?
• Describe and expand on strategies related to supporting and accommodating protocols associated with verbal communication, negotiation, political structures of communities, non-verbal communication, respect for privacy and mutual respect
Anyone able to help me?

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
I put this for Activity 4:
• Land- Respect the link and endeavour develop and provide services that acknowledge the diversity of culture.
• Kinship- Different clans developed slightly different family structures and systems of interrelationship. Clan, family and extended family groups might be called kin or skin groups. Health service providers must recognise the places where kinship ties are valued and understand how they are structured.
• Spiritual beliefs- Indigenous Australians are grounded in the Dreaming. Health services should be aware of Indigenous spirituality and its associated rituals-laws, taboos and expectations. These land places are sacred sites which are imbued with special properties.
• Visual and performance art- Health service providers need to realise the ways in which visual arts and the other art forms such as dance, music and story-telling integrate into Indigenous community life and they should understand the values of suck expressions as they relate to history and the stories of the present.
I think it is in one of the slides I can't remember lol

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
I started on it and have only written:
-Community issues is a critical issue of a community and of the clients or potential clients in that community. (which was off slide 11) I don't know what else to write. Is the answer in Slide 13 somewhere?

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
for the first one i put
Non Indigenous staff often have a lack of appreciation of historical racism, segregation and discrimination experienced by Indigenous individuals, families and groups. They all so might find it difficult to understand how this experience is passed from generation to generation and how it results in current reticence with regard to approaching and making use of health services or with regard to participating in main stream education systems and working in organisations that predominantly non-Indigenous.

Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
Should I only put that or find more Critical issues in the slides?
Re: Questions for Module- HLTHIR404D - Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
i put this -
Community issues are critical issues influencing workplace and professional relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. There is distrust and fear of of service providers because they fear the loss of control if they cooperate with mainstream organisations. You will need to consider,Health- safe, healthy and supportive family environments within strong communities and cultural identities.Social needs, for instance, positive child development / education and prevention of violence, crime and self harm. Economic needs, improved wealth creation and economic sustainability for individuals, families and communities. Opportunites for culturally suitable employment and growing self-determination and self sustainability. Issues such as these will influence professional relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

Strategies could include staff having regular training and appreciation days for different cultures allowing them to be capable of - Awareness of the different expectations associated with traditions, languages, beliefs, values, ideas and practices encouraged. Staff treat each other with respect and dignity.Staff recognise, understand and value difference/ diversity. The decisions made are genuinely based on equity and fairness. Work conditions accommodate a range of cultural requirements. Appropriate action is taken to eliminate discrimination, stereotyping and bias. Relevant legislation provides the basis for organisational policy and procedure documentation.
